Online Psychotherapy

Some people know the kind of psychotherapy they are looking for. They want work that takes the unconscious seriously—that makes room for dreams, recurring patterns, imagination, and questions of meaning, rather than treating symptoms as the whole story. Searching where they live, they discover that this kind of work can be hard to find.

I offer online individual psychotherapy to adults in North Carolina and other states participating in PSYPACT. I am a licensed psychologist, and my work is depth-oriented, informed by psychoanalytic, existential, and Jungian traditions. Sessions take place through secure video.

Jungian thought is a formative influence on my work, not a script for what sessions must include. Therapy need not center on Jung, archetypes, or dream analysis, and no familiarity with these traditions is expected. Some clients come with years of reading in depth psychology. Others simply want a therapy that can hold complexity, ambiguity, and the parts of experience that resist quick explanation.

When dreams, images, or symbolic material do arise, we consider them carefully—without a universal code, and without assigning predetermined meanings. Their significance depends on the life of the person bringing them. When such material does not arise, the work goes on all the same. Its depth lies in the quality of attention, not in the vocabulary.

Meeting by video changes the room. It does not change what the work requires: sustained attention, continuity, and a reliable professional relationship. What accumulates from week to week—recurring reactions, relational patterns, dreams, conflicts, moments of uncertainty—can be attended to as fully across distance as they can in an office.

Online sessions do ask something of the setting on your side: a private place from which to meet, a dependable connection, and enough freedom from interruption to give the hour your attention. When those conditions hold, the boundary around the session and the regularity of meeting create a genuine consulting room, wherever you are.

Through my Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology under PSYPACT, I can work with adults who are physically located in participating U.S. jurisdictions at the time of a session. Because participation and effective dates change, the current PSYPACT map is the most reliable reference, and I am glad to confirm whether I can provide services where you will be located—including during travel.

The search for a particular kind of psychotherapy becomes concrete through conversation. Before scheduling an initial session, I generally arrange a telephone call of fifteen to twenty minutes, so we can discuss what you are seeking and whether my practice and this way of working fit.

Information about fees, insurance, and scheduling is available in Practice Information. For those in the Charlotte area, in-person sessions are also available at my SouthPark office.
